AFC Shepherds Arms - Season 05/06 - Saturday

AFC Shepherds Arms

1st Division Wakefield & District League

The season has gone quite well really - there was only that blip in November and December that has caused us to be as low as we are. Add to that the 3 points we have had deducted by the league, really hasn't done us any favours.

The Shepherds Arms season has now finished and we have finished respectably in the top half with only four other teams netting more goals.

Some great foundations to build on in seasons to come when the push will really start.

AFC Shepherds Arms finished strongly through the evening matches only losing 1 of the last 7 games.

The last games have also seen the team record their best home and away wins of the season with a 7 - 0 away win against Pindersfields Unison and an 8 - 1 home win against Morley.

The season started really well going unbeaten until the first round of the League Cup. This then saw a blip in the season with 1 other Cup defeat and 3 league defeats.

Of all the teams above Shepherds Arms the team has only lost two games to the teams that have finished higher. This goes to show that there is some real room for improvement - especially after drawing 7 games.

All in all a good first season as AFC Shepherds Arms - a good starting block to build on for the coming seasons.

Best Home Win Morley C & SC 8-1
Best Away Win Pinderfields Unison 7-0
Worst Home Defeat Snydale Ath 3-0
Worst Away Defeat White Bear Kexborough 4-1

This is the completed goalscorers for the season 2005/06 with a total of 16 different scorers.

The clear winner is Dave Ramsey - quite surprising really when you consider that he has missed 5 games through suspension and played 99% of the season in midfield.

In the games that he has played up front he has failed to score.

In the last game of the season it was nice to Matthew Townend pop up with 2 who couldn't buy a goal earlier in the season. In addition to this, our keeper - Ben Hunter played out and scored.

Even better was the exquisite finishing of James Marsh - after netting his goal he proceeded to pull his top over his head and was subsequently mobbed by the players.

Has a goal ever been so deservedly celebrated.
